As a native from Bucharest, Romania - the Land of Carpathia, Gabriel Datcu fell in love in his teens with classical and jazz music styles which subsequently lead in his later years to meet and study with some of the best artists in his home country and abroad.
In year 2000, while he was studying at Jazz Conservatory of Bucharest, Gabriel has been solicited to play in a Jazz Orchestra on an tour in Switzerland shortly after which he was offered the opportunity to study and settle in the U.S. where he was able to meet, play and study guitar with some of most preeminent jazz personalities such as John Scofield, Pat Metheny and Fareed Haque or with classical guitar artists such as Lorenzo Michelli, Denis Azabagic and Jason Vieoux.
Currently Gabriel is involved in several assembles locally (in Chicago) as well as on nation wide touring in various formats including his own solo guitar performances, with jazz duos, trios or quartets for either straight ahead swing styles or Brazillian music . Recently , the string duo acoustic act - guitar and cello with internationally acclaimed artist - Ian Maksin, continues to receive interest, recognition and performance solicitations both locally and nation wide . Several of the venues in U.S. Gabriel has performed at include : Grant Park, Pritzker's Stage, Jazz Showcase, Chicago Theatre, City Winery and Hapton by Hilton in Florida.
