Composer/pianist Dr. Jarosław Gołembiowski is the Founder and President of the Chicago Chopin Society, and one of the leading Polish-American musicians in the USA.
He received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and holds two Master of Arts degrees: in Music Education (1981) and in Music Theory, Conducting and Composition (1986)—composition studies under Zygmunt Herembeszta—from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, Poland.
He stands out among composers for his motivation and enthusiasm, as evidenced by the joy emanating from the accomplished performances of his music by musicians and ensembles such as Adam Golka, May Phang, the Penderecki String Quartet, and the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra. His commissioned compositions capture the spirit of extraordinary events like the Battle of Vienna (Gloria for mixed choir, 2004), and the Warsaw Uprising (Zdrowaś Mario [Ave Maria] for soprano, piano or organ, 1994). Other works resonate equally with traditional (B.A.C.H., variations for piano solo, 2000), Sonata alla Scarlatti for piano, 2007) and experimental forms and techniques (The Last 8:42, 1984, for magnetic tape and Op. 100 for piano, 2004). His writing often translates the passing of time into sound (Music for Hours for piano, 2011), and everyday life events into peaceful musical miniatures (Piano Games, 1993, 12 Preludes for piano, 1983). After 40 years of creativity, his focus is on propagating concert music in public venues. He also explores music preservation techniques in a variety of ways.
Gołembiowski performs as a soloist and ensemble pianist, composer, and conductor. He also lectures in the U.S. and abroad. He writes about his adventures with music for various newspapers and has appeared frequently as a guest on radio programs. He is the recipient of several cultural and public service awards. He is the winner of the 2016 edition of the Outstanding Pole Abroad contest (Chicago region), in the culture category.
